Pennington on Deal’s Common Failures, Now on Common Core

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  July 23, 2013

Mayor David Pennington responded today to Nathan Deal’s attempts to distance himself from Common Core:

The fact that it took Governor Deal so long to make any announcement on Common Core is an indication of the problem we have in the Governor’s office. It would have taken me 3 seconds to reject it in its entirety.

Worse, apparently Nathan Deal has not really rejected Common Core – only the cost of the standardized test. This means, apparently, that Deal supports the idea of Common Core, just not the cost.

The problem with Common Core is not just the cost of a standardized test – it is the concept itself.

I believe strongly that, if we truly want to give our children the best education, we need to decentralize education from the federal and state levels to the local communities.
